Sutton’s Alan Blay & David Johnston showed great form in a large and experienced fleet last weekend at the GP14 Leinsters held in Mullingar.

A great turnout of 36 boats in Mullingar reflected the togetherness of the GP14 fleet following the sad passing of GP14 sailor Graham Elmes the previous week. SDC’s own Stephen Boyle, provided a moving outline of ‘Elmos’ contribution to sailing, prior to a minutes silence before the fleet took to the water.

A overall 12th place finish in the end did not do the new pair justice to what was a very promising event. Gear failure forced a retiral in race 2 on Saturday and an unlucky DSQ when finishing second in race 1 forced the pair to carry a 36 in their final tally. The 4 races on Sunday included a pair 2nd places behind Olympian and Class Champion Ger Owens. The event was won by John & Dona McGuinness (Moville).
