SDC
did well at the IDRA National Championships Newtownards Sailing
Club on 5-9 August. Alan Carr and Aoibhin deBurca
in 14/38 Starfish were the overall winners with 3 firsts and
2 seconds. This is Alan's third time successfully defending
the National IDRA title.
Three
other IDRAs from Sutton competing were Scorie Walls
and Rick Morris in 14/136 Last Chance - 4th place overall
and Rick won the crews race; Jim Lambkin and Wendy
Rudd in 14/1 Error - 5th place, receiving the Old Oak
trophy for best placed 'mature' team; Charles Sargent
and Hillary Gilligan in 14/126 Smurfette - received
the Mullingar trophy for midfleet placing of 9th in 18 boats.
It was a wonderful event with winds ranging from light and
variable to fresh or strong. Lawrence and his team at NSC
were wonderful hosts. Ian Sargent, PRO and his team organized
a fine and fair series of 6 championship races and a crews
race, despite highly variable weather conditions.
