Six
Sutton IDRA 14's took part in the Clontarf Yacht
and Boat Club 'At Home' Regatta on Sunday 20th July.
Racing was cancelled on Sat. 19th due to high winds.
Two races were run on Sunday. Highest wind speeds
on Sunday were 25 knots. It was achallenging event.
Alan Carr and Aoibhin DeBurca in IDRA 14 / 38 Starfish
from SDC won the event and took the Sunbeam Challenge
Trophy back to SDC. This perpetual trophy was instituted
in 1958. Starfish got a first and a second in the
two races.

done to all SDC competitors who took part in the
Regatta on Thursday last.

CY & BC Junior Regatta tok place in difficult
weather conditions. There were 17 boats from Sutton
Dinghy Club and 10 from the National Yacht club
in Dunlaoighre. The start had to be postponed a
number of times to wait for lighter winds. This
facilitated the visiting boats who were delayed
getting across the bay. Hot soup rejuvenated the
tired visitors and the the race got under way at
1.30pm. Race officer, Ian Sargent, set a course
up to the Fairview end of the water from a committee
boat. There were starts for 4.7, Radial and Pico;
also Mirrors, Optimists and Toppers! Well done to
everyone.

Royal
St George Yacht Club Regatta
On
Saturday 5th July 2008, Alan Carr and Aoibhin
deBurca in IDRA 14 38 won the St George Yacht
Club Regatta.
They were tempted to sail across the bay, but
with a gale warning and small craft warning in
operation they did the sensible thing and trailed
the boat across. They won both races.
Second place went to Frank Hamilton in IDRA 14
140 from Dunlaoghaire Motor Yacht Club
National Yacht Club Regatta Dun Laoghaire
- 14th June 2008
Two
IDRA 14's from Sutton sailed across the bay to
the National Yacht Club Regatta on Saturday June
15th. The wind was variable from force 2 to force
5 during squalls. Two races with quite a few capsizes
made it a challenging event. Alan Carr and John
Lynch in IDRA 14/38 Starfish took 1st place in
their class. This was John's first time competing
in a Dun Laoghaire Regatta, and his performace
on trapeze and spinnaker were outstanding.
Gerry O'Hanlon and Paul McNally took 3rd place
in IDRA14/6 Dolphin.
Second place went to our southside friends Frank
Hamilton and Jennifer Byrne from DMYC in IDRA
140, Dunmoanin,Once
again, SDC showed that it has a strong IDRA 14
fleet.
