The
GP14 Hot Toddy Championship was won by Tim Corcoran
and Brendan Brogan of Sligo Yacht Club . It was held
at Sutton Dinghy Club on Sat 18th and Sunday 19th October,
2008. Principal Race Officer Scorie Walls gave the racers
a great days racing, and managed to get 4 races in on
Saturday due to the atrocious weather forecast for Sunday.
Sailors
came off the water having had an exhilarating but tiring
days racing. Race 1 was won by Paul Maguire and Stephen
Boyle of SDC with Tom Corcoran and Brendan Brogan continuing
their outstanding seasons performance by winning races
2 & 4 and getting 2nd place in Races 1 & 3. Niall Henry
and Oisin Geraghty of Sligo YC took 2nd place overall
with two 3rds in races 1 & 2 and a 2nd in Race 4. Paddy
O'Connor and Tanya McHale took 3rd place with a 5th,
1st and 3rd showing potential for improvement for next
season. Johnny Park and Bob Stenson of Newtownards SC,
while principally coming to Sutton for the party on
Saturday evening managed to race into 7th place and
1st in the Silver Fleet. Alex Walsh and Paul McCarthy
of Swords S&BC took 1st in the Bronze Fleet sailing
their recently purchased GP which has a very smart pedigree,
the boat having come 2nd in Worlds in Sligo 2006 and
2nd in the UK Nationals.
Saturday
evening's dinner and party saw the sailors enjoying
a night of great food, singing and dancing and being
entertained by a blast from the past - Mr Elvis Presley.
He sang, crooned and gyrated for two and a half hours
despite being mauled, groped and kissed by adoring groupies
as they fought over his sweat soaked scarves. A night
that will be long remembered! Sunday's 33 knots of wind
put paid to any thoughts of racing that day much to
the relief of the many hangovers!!
