Day 3 of the Irish Mirror Nationals and the 2 races were sailed in much windier conditions with racing temporarily abandoned after race 1 because of gusts of over 25 knots. After an early lunch the fleet minus the bronze fleet were back on the line and a cracking 4th race was completed late afternoon.
After discards Shane & Ben lie in 27th, Sinead & Eve are 28th but were very unfortunate with a hair raising experience in race 1. Conor & Ben had a mixed day, sailing very well but incurring OCS in the last race and lie in 33rd. The 4th race was David & Rory best race so far with a 21st having been up in 14th at one point. They now lead Silver fleet in 32nd overall from Conor but all 4 Sutton boats are closely bunched together.
The Philipines duo Ridgely Ballardes & Rommel Chawvez still lead the event from GBR Sarah Richards and her son. Ireland’s Alfie Wisdom (LDYC) lies 3rd and leading Irish boat with Cian Hickey (Skerries) in 5th.
On the social side, the LDYC club held a BBQ last night out of the rain for all competitors and families. A great family atmosphere here and with still another 20+ boats to arrive for the Worlds next week should be a great occasion.

I also managed to get a slot on Peter McCutcheon’s Shannon One Design in Wednesdays club sailing. 2 races and with Kuba from South Africa Mirror team we managed to win the second race. I am looking forward to another outing next Wednesday. The welcome and hospitality from Lough Derg Yacht Club has been magnificent.
