Sutton Dinghy Club mourns the passing of Loretta Cummins, a former Junior Affairs Officer and Committee member of Sutton Dingy Club. Loretta lived locally
since moving from Clontarf in the 50s and along with her husband Larry sailed a variety of boats including IDRA 14 (14/27) and won the Enterprise Nationals in 1961, sailed at Dinghy Week in Crosshaven.
Their kids, Susan, David, Paula and Michael all sailed out of Sutton Dinghy Club. Susan is part of the race management team in Howth Yacht Club. Paula, now lives in Australia and raced Tasars in Sydney. David was an exceptional talent, particularly in the Laser in the early and mid 80s, also competing on an Irish Admirals Cup team and winning the Helmsmans Championship on two occasions before moving to Australia where he then successfully raced Sydney Harbour Skiffs for many years. MIchael was regular Club racer in the 80s and is a regular visitor to the Club.
While Larry passed away in 2011, Loretta remained a regular visitor to Sutton Dinghy Club and Club events including our Annual Dinner. Our sympathies extend to Susan, David, Paula and Michael and to the wider Cummins family.
