Very sad news yesterday with the passing of Neville Maguire, a former member of Sutton Dinghy Club. A long time member of Howth Yacht Club and a hugely successful offshore
racing Champion in the likes of the Shamrock Half Tonner Demelza amongst others. Earlier, he was a renowned dinghy sailor competing in Mermaids, IDRA14, Finns and Enterprises and went on to win the Helmsmans Championship twice in 1952 and 1954 and runner-up again in 1962.
During his time in Sutton Dinghy Club, Neville sailed and skippered the 1962 and 1963 Sutton Book Trophy teams against Royal Munster Yacht Club, leading Sutton to a draw and victory respectively.
The Committee extends it condolences to Jean, Susan, Lesley, Gordon and the extended Maguire family.
