Dragon East Coast Championship

Ruan & Stephen on board Phantom Capital

Following some recent good showings in the early GP14 Ireland events, Sutton Dinghy Clubs sailors Ruan O’Tiarnaigh and Stephen Boyle returned to the Dragon Class this weekend after a long break. The pair have been on Dragon podiums in the past notably as crew to multiple Olympic medallist Poul-Richard Hoj-Jensen in winning Kiel Week in 1999.

This weekend the pair teamed up with John Burke to compete in the Dragon East Cost Championship held in Dun Laoghaire and finished 3rd behind Neil Hegarty. Word is this will not be the last Dragon event the pair compete in this year. Check out the full Afloat report HERE.

Another GP14 Club sailor David Johnston, now sailing out of Vancouver, experienced his first major offshore race while competing on the J109 Doubletime at the weekends Swiftsure International Yacht Race. David will be combining mainsheet trim along with some helming in this 105 mile race. The event in its 77th year is the premier Pacific Northwest sailing event. We will let you know how David gets on.
