A quick round up of some racing news involvng Sutton Dinghy Club sailors over the last couple of weeks that included HYC’s Lambay Race, the UK Womens Keelboat Championship held on south coast of England at Hamble and last weekends DMYC Regatta and ICRA Championships in Howth.
The Lambay race held in gloroius weather saw our own Commodore Jim Lambkin helm Papagina to 3rd place on Handicap in the Puppeteer Class with Scories Walls on Golddust taking 3rd on Scratch also in Puppeteers.
A predominantly Irish crew took the honours in the Dubarry sponsored UK Womens Keelboat Championship on 4-5 June. Our own GP14 sailor Katie Dwyer was part of skipper Laura Dillons team that emereged victorious from a fleet of 17 yachts in this 2 day event on the Hamble. The event also raised £1350 for Breast Cancer Care and the Hamble Lifeboat.
Last weekends ICRA Championships in Howth Yacht Club saw Dave Sargent’s Indulgence take 2nd in Corinthian Class A with SDC’s Wendy Rudd part of the crew. Aside from sailors our own Harry Gallagher and Scorie Walls were PRO on one of the 3 fleets for this major event.
On going to press we are aware that Alan Carr and Dan Kilroy sailoing IDRA14 Starfish emerged victorius and King of the Bay in yesterdays DMYC Regatta. More details to follow when available.
Next weekend sees the start of the Volvo Round Ireland from Wicklow with a record entry of 64 boats. Our own Club Secretary Ian McCormack will be part of Paul Reillys crew on Applegreen Sail4Kids. Good luck Ian. Enjoy the the race.
