Well after some ominous weather warnings earlier in the week, it was fantastic that the wind gods changed their minds and we had lovely conditions for the first race of the year! The Easter Eggs were kindly sponsored by our neighbours, *SuperValu Sutton* and it was terrific to see so many boats on the water this early in the season (2 Lasers, 1 IDRA 14, 1 Pico, 8 Oppis). Particular congratulations to the young Oppi sailors who turned out in force.
PRO Graham Blay, assisted by Trevor, got proceedings underway bang on time. It was a challenging course as the wind was from the North East, directly offshore. The sailors started on a reach for approx. 50m and then after rounding the first mark headed on a Run out into the bay to Mark 2. A beat from 2 to 1 provided some tactical overtaking opportunity followed by another sausage, finishing by a starboard rounding of third mark and a reach to the line. There was some confusion amongst the Opis on the first race but with SDC 1 in a pathfinder capacity for Races 2 and 3 things ran much smoother.
The lovely eggs were distributed to all the competitors after the race together with delicious hot-cross buns and hot chocolate. The PRO then had a very informative debriefing.
Well done again to all. A great start to the season.
