SuperValu-Sutton-Logo-341x59Following the cancellation of racing on Saturday which turned out to be a smart move with gusts of 40 Knots in the bay and across the dinghy park making life difficult, hopes for a successful event were pinned on some wind on Sunday. It certainly looked for a long time today that we would be disappointed with little or no breeze in Sutton Creek.

A really big thank you to our Race Management Team on both courses for their tremenduous perseverance. A big thank you to the sailors and their parents for their patience. After a very long wait both fleets took to the water with a race succesfully completed for the Mixed Fleet and 2 races for the inner Optimist Fleet. Considering the conditions, the sailors all seemed to have a great day. Congratulations to all the Fleet winners.

Some great results from some of our own Club sailors saw Peter Boyle sailing a GP14 take 2nd Individual and Peter was a member of the winning Belvedere Mixed Fleet Team. In very trickly and difficult conditions 12th overall and leading Topper was a superb result for Abby Kinsella. Oisin Kelly continued his good form with a 13th overall against senior and more experienced Opi sailors.

There was plenty of Coffee, Tea, Scones and toasted cheese slices to help keep the parents occupied. A big thank you to our sponsor for the event SuperValu Sutton. Great to see Patsy Nolan present the Team winners Belvedere with their trophy in memory of her son Conor. Muriel O’Tiarnaigh was on hand to present the Rocard O’Tiarnaigh Trophy to leading Sutton helm Peter Boyle. ISA President Jack Roy was also on hand to say a few words to the115 sailors who took part in this event.
