Sutton Dinghy Club | End-of-Season Newsletter 2026

Celebrating a fantastic season at SDC!

As the 2026 sailing season draws to a close, it’s time to look back on a busy and rewarding year at Sutton Dinghy Club. From training hundreds of young sailors to bringing adult sailing courses back to the club, hosting successful fundraising events and enjoying a fantastic social calendar, there’s plenty to celebrate.

A huge thank you to all our members, instructors, volunteers and supporters who have helped make this season such a success. Here’s a look at what’s been happening at SDC, along with some important news as we head into winter.

Boat Park — Winter Storage Reminder

Winter is here. All members who still have boats in the boat park are asked to remove them over the coming week.

We need to clear the remaining spaces to accommodate larger keelboats that will be stored in the park over winter. With the season’s first storm already behind us and more severe weather likely in the weeks ahead, it’s also important that boats are moved somewhere secure for the winter.

As the accompanying photograph shows, the recent strong winds during Storm Austen were powerful enough to overturn a couple of boats. Thankfully, there was no significant damage on this occasion, but it’s a timely reminder of the conditions lighter boats can face during the winter months.

If you still have a boat in the park, please arrange to move it and secure it elsewhere as soon as possible.

Looking for winter storage for your keelboat?

If you own a keelboat on a road trailer, Sutton Dinghy Club can offer winter boat parking at very competitive rates, with access to electricity and water for maintenance.

If you’re interested in taking advantage of this facility, please contact the club office for further information.

Thank you to all our members for helping us prepare the boat park for winter and keeping our boats and facilities safe.

SAVE THE DATE: Sunset Supper — Saturday, 14 November

Join us for an evening of dinner, drinks and good company at Sutton Dinghy Club!

Our Sunset Supper takes place on Saturday, 14 November, at 20:00, and we’d love to see as many members as possible joining us for what promises to be a fantastic evening.

Tickets are €30 per person.

Events like this are an important part of club life. Beyond the sailing, we want Sutton Dinghy Club to be a place where members can relax, catch up with friends, meet fellow sailors and enjoy spending time together.

Our recent Quiz Night showed what a brilliant atmosphere we can create when everyone gets involved. Now we’d love to build on that momentum and continue reigniting the club’s social scene.

The more members who come along, the more opportunities we’ll have to organise great evenings like this in the future!

So gather some friends, book your tickets and join us for a memorable night at the club.

Book your tickets through the SDC website or contact the club office to reserve your place.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Supporting St Francis Hospice: Our Coffee Morning Bake Sale

On 22 September, Sutton Dinghy Club hosted a bake sale in support of St Francis Hospice as part of Ireland’s Largest Coffee Morning.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, we raised an impressive €444 for this very worthwhile cause.

A special thank you goes to Antoinette for organising the event, everyone who baked or brought delicious treats, and all those who came along to enjoy a coffee, support the fundraiser and contribute to the morning’s success.

It’s wonderful to see our club community coming together to support such an important local charity. Thank you to everyone who played a part!

Quiz Night: A fantastic evening for the club!

Our Quiz Night on 17 October was a tremendous success, bringing members and friends together for a great evening of fun, friendly competition and fundraising.

With 65 people taking part, the evening raised an incredible €1,530+, which will help the club purchase essential radio equipment.

Events like these play an important role in supporting our club while bringing our community together. We’d love to continue building a vibrant social scene at Sutton Dinghy Club, and the fantastic turnout on the night shows just how much potential there is.

A huge thank you to everyone who bought tickets and joined us, as well as our quizmasters, organisers and all the volunteers who helped make the evening such a success.

We’d also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the local businesses that generously sponsored the quiz and donated prizes:

  • Daha Wellness
  • Póg
  • Wright’s Findlater Howth
  • The Nomad Sauna
  • King Citric Seafood Bar

Your generosity and support mean a great deal to the club.

Thank you to everyone who made it such a memorable evening. We look forward to seeing even more of you at our future social events
