The second event on the GP14 calendar, the GP14 Leinster Championships was supposed to be part of the Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta. With the VDLR cancelled, Blessington Sailing Club stepped in to run the event. A superb turnout of 34 boats were welcomed by the event organiser Richard Street and PRO Joe Crilly. Under extreme pressure and very tricky conditions, the PRO did a wonderful job to get all 6 races completed.
The event saw 5 Sutton Dinghy Club crews including Diana Kissane & Graham Curran making a return to fleet after almost 10 years. Hugh & Dan Gill, David & Andy Johnston, Peter & Joe Doherty and Conor Twohig & Meg Tyrrell also making trip down to Wicklow.
Sutton had a very good event with 3 boats in the top 10 with Hugh & Dan sailing a very consistent event to finish 7th and Diana & Graham finishing 9th. Best of the Sutton boats however was Conor & Meg who had a very worthwhile event taking 6th Overall and winning Silver Fleet. A good second day saw 3 top 10 finishes for David and Andy while Peter & Joe won the Leinster Youth Championship.
The event was won by Ger Owens and Mel Morris by a point from Shane MacCarthy. The full event results can be found HERE on the GP14 Ireland website.
