IDRA 14 Class Association – 80th Anniversary Celebration (1946–2026)
Sutton Dinghy Club is delighted to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the iconic IDRA 14 class on Saturday, 25th April 2026.

A Historic Milestone
This anniversary marks an important chapter in the club’s history. Back in 1946, funding for the original clubhouse was raised through a raffle for one of the very first IDRA 14 dinghies—raising £120 and helping establish the club on its current site. In those early days, IDRA 14s raced alongside traditional clinker-built boats such as the Twelves and Mermaids, quickly becoming a central part of club life.
On the Water – Try an IDRA 14
We will have several IDRA 14 boats available, with experienced skippers taking sailors out on Sutton Creek (weather permitting).
This is a great opportunity for junior sailors and newcomers to:
- Experience trapezing and spinnakers
- Learn about crewing opportunities
- Discover the excitement of IDRA 14 sailing
We’re especially keen to welcome the next generation of sailors to the class.
Ashore – Social Gathering
All current and former IDRA 14 sailors (from SDC and other clubs) are warmly invited to join a relaxed social evening, including:
- A slideshow of IDRA 14s through the years at SDC
- Stories and memories from past and present sailors
- An opportunity to bring along photos and memorabilia (which can be scanned or photographed on the night)
