This weekend sees the IDRA14 fleet in Rostrevor, Carlingford for the Northern Championships, the first event of the season. Sutton Dinghy Club should have 3 boats at least with Alan Henry, Alan Carr and Charles Sargent and respective crews travelling. Updates to follow.

Last weekends Purcell Trophy in Greystones saw Ger Owens and Shane McCarthy take the top 2 positions in the 2nd GP14 event of the season with 26 entries. Sutton Dinghy Clubs Alan Blay & David Johnston suffered gear failure, restricting them to 3 races from the 5 sailed. A 2nd, 3rd along with a 12th in the final race suggests they will not be far off the pace as the season progresses. Lying 4th overnight, Peter & Stephen Boyle struggled in Sundays very light winds and finished 10th overall. Sutton’s Hugh Gill and Katie Dwyer did not compete with both recovering from illness and injury but expected to be back for the Ulsters in Newtownards on Jun 17/18. Full report from Greystones on the GP14 website.

The Mirrors were in Mullingar Sailing Club on Lough OwelRee last weekend for the O’Dowd Trophy and Training weekend. This event is for Silver and Bronze sailors only. Gold sailors can participate but only as crew. The Club was represented by Oscar Langan who crewed for Luaghaidh Croasdell in the event with the pair finishing 2nd. Next event will be Mirror Northerns on June 23/24.

Coaching continues each week and we would encourage all junior and adult novice sailors to come down and avail of the efforts of our coaches. The Calendar on the website has a full schedule of coaching sessions. Most sessions will be on the water unless identified as a ‘shore based session’. In the interest of fairness, the coaches would ask that everybody attending make every effort to be ready to go on the water at the designated time.
