Sutton Dinghy Club welcomed Junior and Senior teams from Royal Cork Yacht Club for the Book Trophy, the oldest team racing event in Ireland which has seen both these Clubs race each other since 1944. With very light and shifty breezes, PRO Jim Lambkin had his work cut out to get the planned races in for both Senior and Junior events. RCYC Junior ran out deserved winners in the morning event with Jonathan O’Shaughnessy their skipper collecting the Junior Book to take back to Cork.
In the Senior event, with the breeze dying away and running out of tide, Sutton ran out close but deserved winners 2-1 with team captain Dan Gill reclaiming and collecting the Senior Book. The members of the winning Sutton team were Dan Gill (C), Michelle Rowley, Stephen Boyle, Ella Fitzgerald, Peter Boyle, Finn Doherty. This leaves the overall score 27 to 19 in favor of RCYC. A super day on the water was finished with dinner in the Club. A big shout out to Irish Sailing for use of their Fireflies and in particular Richard McGlade and the Royal Cork Yacht Club teams for travelling to Sutton. Full Race Report to follow.
